My Sunday started off with noticing the crack on my MacBook. A co-worker at Rovsing got a crack in the same spot before so I knew it was an issue, and I checked my warranty on the Apple site and found I had two weeks left, so I went to the Apple store while I had the time. I didn’t get any breakfast when leaving so I bought a big steak-filled sub from Quizno’s while waiting for my turn at the Genius Bar or whatever it is they call the technical support desk in the Apple Store and the Mac Genius, or whatever it is they call the tech support guys, very quickly replaced the top part of my laptop for me. It gave me a new keyboard and trackpad (which were the most worn parts of the laptop), but it’s an American layout. I’ve been getting used to that over the last few weeks at work anyway so it’s no problem. At least we speak the same language so there aren’t any funny accents wasting space. After that, I popped down to work to leave my bag off because I was about to climb the Twin Peaks: the second-highest mountains right in the centre of the city. I got the muni to Castro, and did my best not to be weirded out by all the gays. I counted 6 gay couples with a quick scan of the street. Three guys were all touchy-feely with each other and playing with a dog they had dressed up in a pink shirt and a denim mini-skirt. Rainbow flags lined the street. Actually, dogs were EVERYWHERE. Especially small ones. I asked a friend about this and was told that it’s common for gay couples to keep dogs as replacements for the children they’ll never be able to have (at least of their own).
I walked down past the gay sex shop, past the underwear store, noticed a comic-book shop and thought “hey, that’s pretty straight!” but then saw there was a lot more Wonder Woman than usual in the window. I turned off at 19th and escaped the main drag and met up with Dave. We bought some water and headed up the hill. It was all steps and streets, so I’m not sure of the correct nomenclature for it… hill-walking? Does that imply lots of nature?
After getting to the top and getting a load of photos, we went down to the Haight and I spent $70 in Amoeba Records. Everything there from the record stores to the clothes shops were so “alternative” and I found a shirt I wanted to buy but they didn’t have anything in my size. It looks like the clothes in Japan are all too small for me and they’re too big for me here. Well, I’m actually a medium here, but there weren’t any mediums in that shop for the shirt I wanted.
Leaving Amoeba we passed a guy holding out a DVD-R saying “Pro Tools! Photoshop!” and that was the first time I saw someone selling pirated software on the street like that.
I got a lot of sun this weekend. No more long-sleeve shirts for me… I’m starting to get a tan line on my write. If you look close enough, you can make out where it gets white at my hairline, but my skin’s feeling pretty good. I guess this city’s being good to me!

Hey Daniel, same thing here with my MacBook. Crack just to the right of the touch-pad. Apparently it’s happening a lot but Apple are repairing them for free, even if your warranty has expired. Too bad there is no Apple Store around here..
Good to see you are getting on well over in San Fran
